Studio Portrait Sessions Meet Ballet:
Karolina Webb at West London Studio
Dance photography in a studio setting is a discipline all its own. It requires a space that can accommodate movement, precise lighting, and the kind of clean backdrop that lets a dancer’s form take centre stage. When Karolina Webb of Ballet School Photographer brought her studio portrait session to West London Studio, it was the perfect match.
About Karolina Webb
Karolina’s journey into ballet photography began close to home — when her daughter started ballet classes as a toddler, Karolina discovered both a passion for the craft and a natural talent for capturing it. What started as documenting her daughter’s progress grew into a full-time business. Today, with over a decade of experience, Karolina specialises in ballet class and performance photography, studio portrait sessions, audition portfolios, and outdoor location shoots.
Her work spans dancers of all levels — from the fun and friendship of baby and toddler classes through to the grace of top performers — and she partners with a wide range of London ballet schools including The Ballet School, West London School of Dance, Ealing School of Dance, and Highgate Ballet School.
The Session at West London Studio
For this particular shoot, Karolina was photographing Charlotte (@pointe_of_charlotte), a dancer who was, as Karolina described it, “on pointe — literally and figuratively”. Against our warm-toned cyclorama backdrop, Charlotte moved through a series of poses that captured the discipline, fluidity, and emotion of ballet. Karolina captured the session in both colour and black and white — offering the classic monochrome treatment that’s become synonymous with dance photography.
The result is a testament to what’s possible when a skilled photographer has access to the right space.
Why Studios Matter for Dance Portrait Photography
A controlled studio environment is essential for capturing dance portraiture at its best. Here’s what makes the difference:
Controllable, consistent lighting — dance poses happen in fractions of a second, and lighting needs to freeze movement cleanly without harsh shadows.
Clean, spacious backdrops — our cyclorama walls provide a seamless, distraction-free canvas that keeps the focus entirely on the dancer.
Room to move and shoot from multiple angles — photographers need space to work around the subject, and dancers need freedom to perform.
A professional, calm environment — focus is everything when capturing artistry, and a quiet studio space eliminates interruptions.
A Collaboration That Makes Sense
Karolina’s core services include studio portrait sessions — the very thing our space is built to support. Whether she’s shooting individual audition portfolios, creative editorial work, or promotional content for the ballet schools she partners with, West London Studio provides the reliable, well-equipped hire space she needs right here in West London.
It’s collaborations like this that remind us why we run this studio. From e-commerce brands and fashion shoots to corporate video and, now, ballet photography — every client brings something different, and every session is a chance to prove how versatile a professional studio space can be.
