AZYR Hits the Cover of Mixmag: Behind the Scenes at West London Studio

We are absolutely buzzing to share the final results of a massive shoot that recently took place right here at West London Studio. The UK’s biggest hard techno export, AZYR, is the latest cover star for Mixmag (Issue 453), and we were thrilled to provide the canvas for this iconic feature.

A Feral Dancefloor Phenomenon

The energy AZYR brings to his sets is legendary, and Mixmag’s feature perfectly captures his meteoric rise. As they noted in their recent release, the 26-year-old Northerner has broken out from “Blackpool b2bs to enrapturing thousands-strong arenas worldwide in four years.”

In the cover story, AZYR takes a rare moment to stop for breath, speaking to Megan Townsend about his ascent to the top and how he’s navigating an intensifying dance music landscape.

Crafting the Cyberpunk Cover

To match the raw, driving intensity of hard techno, the creative team built an incredible visual world on our studio floor.

The mood was dark, futuristic, and heavily stylised. With photography by Moise Luzolo and creative direction by Keenen, the team utilised deep shadows, striking red lighting, and data-driven UI overlays. Combined with the subtle SFX makeup by Sadie Lauder, the resulting images and motion graphics have a distinct cyberpunk edge. Our highly controllable studio environment was the perfect space for the team to manipulate the lighting and bring this exact vision to life.

Celebrating the Release

To mark his appearance on the cover, AZYR also curated the first-ever Mixmag Lab London all-dayer at The Cause, heading up a heavy-hitting line-up that featured Nikolina, Faster Horses, Yasmin Gardezi, JOKESONYOU, and The Muffin Man.
