From Rio to W10: Behind the Scenes with Frescobol Carioca at West London Studio

Our versatile studio has been the backdrop for many creative campaigns, and we were recently thrilled to welcome the team from Frescobol Carioca for a dynamic, multi-format photo shoot.
Known globally for their sophisticated swimwear, luxurious beachwear, and vibrant Brazilian lifestyle aesthetic, Frescobol Carioca chose our facility near Portobello Road to capture the look and feel of their latest collection. Here is an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at how they transformed our space to create their next level of sun-drenched visuals.
The Challenge: Capturing Luxe Light in a Studio Space
A primary challenge for any swimwear or high-end fashion campaign is achieving the perfect light. Creating light that is soft, even, and flattering on skin and textiles requires meticulous control, especially when you need to switch between model photography, detailed e-commerce product shots, and close-ups of delicate accessories.
Our studio provided the blank canvas and the technical infrastructure Frescobol Carioca needed.
1. Setting Up for Perfect Soft Light
We are particularly proud of our open space, which allows brands to think flexibly about their setups. A central item in the Frescobol Carioca shoot was a large, specialised diffusion frame which worked perfectly in conjunction with the studio lighting.
This setup creates an ultra-soft, diffused light source, effectively mimicking the large, soft glow of an overcast day or a giant window, but with the benefit of consistent, perfect control. The image next to this text shows the crew assembling the diffusion frame before bringing it to its position.
Behind the diffusion frame, you can see a glimpse of the dedicated makeup station with its vanity lights, illustrating another feature of the full-service environment of our studio. We love hosting crews with such a good energy and creative spirit!
2. The Diffusion Frame and The Background
Moving to a different angle, we get a clear view of how the diffusion frame was mounted on C-stands. The rest of the set of lights, which includes a wide range of modifiers, softboxes, and reflectors were prepared to sculpt and direct the proper level of light from our flash heads. The technical capabilities in our studio allow production crews to manage complex setups with ultimate efficiency.
The background can also be seen in the image next to the text. It was carefully selected by our customer and it greatly contributed to the final effect intended by the project. West London Studio offers a wide range of background colours that can be used by our customers at no extra cost as long as they are already available.
Our space has very high ceilings, giving the possibility of using a large variety of overhead lighting designs and also different formats of background types. Additionally, there are several full body polyboards available which further help to shape the light and achieve the required effect in the final images.
In other projects and depending on the requirements from our customer, we can also make the most of our flexible space to build a bespoke set.
